8/01/2007 - Watson Café and Luna Media Host Open-Mic Night – With a Twist.
“We’ve always tried to find new ways to promote local artists,” states Kevin Moll, owner of Watson Café. “Open-Mic Thursday has been a successful avenue for this, but we’re willing to try anything to take it a step further and do more for the artists that play here.”
Watson Café, a local coffee house in Watsontown, Pennsylvania, has hosted Open-Mic Thursday since December of 2006. With a warm ambiance void of the pretensions common to most cafés, Watson Café provides a comforting environment for people from all walks of life. Many in search of a place to showcase their undiscovered talents have appreciated the café’s active presence in the local artist community, and several musicians (such as local bands Pullsh and Stained Vengeance) can attribute their success to their beginnings at Watson Café’s Open-Mic Thursday.
In an effort to further aide local musicians, Watson Café is joining forces with Luna Media, a locally owned media service provider, for a special event on August 16th. Luna Media will record each performance, giving the artists a much-needed advantage in their pursuit of a music career. According to James Sheppard, owner of Luna Media, “Talented musicians too often go unnoticed. Open-mics are a great start – but in order to gain bookings that pay, musicians need a quality demo to show the owner of the venue how they perform, particularly in a live setting. What we’re doing is giving each act something they can use to hopefully further their career.” Kevin Moll adds, “I think most musicians would see this as a great opportunity. We really want this to blossom into an event that benefits everyone.”
Emceed by Will “the Thrill” Kradlak, registration for the event will begin at 6 pm on August 16th, and will continue until all musicians have had an opportunity to perform. When asked about preparations for the event, James Sheppard replied, “Due to the nature of the occasion, I would like everyone to contact me in advance so I can be prepared – but anyone who shows up that night is obviously welcome to participate, and I have no problem recording them as well.”
Watson Café is located at 143 Main Street in Watsontown, Pennsylvania with ample parking in rear. If interested, e-mail Contact@LunaOmnimedia.com or call James Sheppard at (570) 279-2183.
